Vivian Abungu
Vivian A. Abungu is a Doctor of Philosophy student from the College of Engineering at the University of Alabama (UA). Her research interest is in Environmental Engineering with a focus on improvement of access to drinking water in the ASALs. Before joining the University of Alabama for graduate studies, Vivian received a Bachelor of Science degree in Water and Environmental Engineering (2007) from Egerton University, in Kenya. Afterwards, Vivian worked with different NGOs and construction firms abroad introducing and implementing, use of cold asphalt premix in rapid road repairs and maintenance (the first of a kind in East Africa), also launching a pollution control and management program in the Kenyan slums. As a student in UA, Vivian has won a number of awards amongst them, US EPA P3 Student Sustainability Program - Phase 1, 2020-2021, MPOWER Women in STEM Scholarships (2019) and P.E.O International Peace Scholarship (2020). As the President of African Student Association (ASA) she led a team of four others to win a UA Career Centre Tide Match Program in 2021. Vivian is a nominated member of Civil Engineering Honor Society as well as a presidential member of National Society of Leadership and Success.
